How would you treat yourself if fleas or ticks were attacking you? Would you rub poisonous insecticides on your skin every now and then?
Read these stories of pet owners who used the most known chemical tick and flea products and their results:
Frontline Plus caused vomiting and convulsions
We have fleas on both our cat and our 12 week old puppy. After recommendations by vets and a good pet shop we used Frontline Plus. Roughly 5-6 hours later the puppy was vomiting quite badly and then had convulsions. When told we had given Frontline, the vet did not mention that these were possible side effects. She had us worried about every other possibility. We have since found a few sites which mention possible side effects. These include:Loss of appetite, underactivity, convulsions, whining, barking, crying (vocalization), body twitches/tremors, overactivity, salivation, stiffened limbs, unsteady gait, incoordination, labored breathing. Of these, our dog showed convulsions, salivation, unsteady gait, incoordination and laboured breathing. Fortunately the symptoms seemed to have passed a day later. But we are now convinced that this is a poison that this dog should never have again. We have used Frontline and Frontline Plus before without these extreme effects, but it is a poison, and we do not know what other more subtle problems may have been caused. We have decided to find other, healthier solutions to the flea problem.

Sergeant’s Pet Care Danger!
I am writing in alarm and concern about the Sergeant‘s Pet Care products for cats that are being sold on the market. I recently used a brand new bottle of Sergeant’s® Skip-Flea® & Tick Shampoo for Cats. Within about 11 hours of using it, my cat was having seizures, and then went into some sort of coma. Her pupils were so big that her eyes were completely black. I took her to the vet hospital where I learned that the shampoo contained this chemical called Permethrin. This is a known PESTICIDE that is lethal and toxic to cats. This isn’t the first case the hospital has had of cats coming in affected by this. Nine hours after getting her to the hospital she died. My cat was perfectly healthy until this moment. I have contacted the company and they are not quite willing to cooperate. I am looking for help in bringing awareness to other pet owners about these harmful products. I’ve done a lot of research and I found out that these following products are also hurting and killing pets (cats and dogs). To read each story of what each animal went through is heartbreaking: Bio Spot, Advantage, Frontline, Sergeant’s Nature’s Guardian flea and tick products. I have emailed several people whose pets have died and become injured. There an amazing amount of people that need help. I’ve contacted the Department of Consumer Affairs and Department of Pesticide Regulation so far and have not gotten very far.

Comfortis flea treatment causes vomiting and death in dogs!
Comfortis is a chewable tablet that kills fleas and prevents flea infestation on dogs for a month. It sounds good, but it has a very dangerous side effect-death.
An owner of six Boxers gave Comfortis to his dogs. One of them started throwing up within a couple of hours, and again the next morning. Another Boxer named Mia started throwing up in the morning, too. She vomited so intensely that she tore her stomach loose and it twisted. Her owners rushed her to the emergency vet, only three miles away from their house. By the time they got there they were too late and Mia passed away.
Two other dogs in the household had upset stomachs and were unable to eat. This means that four out of six dogs that were given Comfortis became sick from it, and one of them died.
The owner contacted the vet at Lilly, which is the company that makes Comfortis. They told her that it does make some dogs sick and they have had reports of twisted stomachs from it’s use, but the problems were within acceptable guidelines. The website for Comfortis states that the most common adverse reaction recorded during clinical trials was vomiting.
I don’t think vomiting after treatment, twisted stomachs or death are acceptable side effects. My heart goes out to Mia’s family.
There are many other products out there to kill and prevent fleas. Flea preventatives should only be bought from your vet. Do not buy flea treatments sold in grocery or pet stores; they rarely work well and have serious side effects. Never use a flea product containing permethrin if you have cats. Most store bought flea products for dogs contain permethrin, as does K9 Advantix. It’s toxic to cats and can kill them.
There are side effects that come along with any medication, so do your research before buying any product. Do not use Comfortis.

Hartz – Dangerous For Pets
My dog who was three- was murdered by Hartz Flea products. We put on him and the next day he was sick and vomited evrywhere, we rushed him to the vet, were testing showed he had acute-renal-failure. The night before Sky was running, playing, wagging, the next day he was dying. Sky could not pee, drink, or eat. Sky could not even walk. He was put down in our arms October 2, 2005. It is unfair. Our stores only sell Hartz products. Please pass my story on. Thank you!
